Fimo is a plastic-based, oven-hardening modelling material whose curing is irreversible. It is made up of dyed PVC and inorganic fillers like, for example, kaolin. This mix of plastics is dyed with pure, brilliant colour pigments. The 24 luminescent colour variations in the Fimo Professional line can all be mixed with one another but also with the Fimo Soft and Fimo Effect versions as well.

Even though Fimo was designed for use by children, it has also been found to be great for many purposes at the professional level of model making. For instance, small work pieces that are not available in their final form can be made in different colours: these include things like special automobiles in architecture model making, custom designed buttons or knobs and fittings, figures, etc., etc.

After the Fimo has been kneaded with warm hands to become soft, it can be shaped and modified to your own specifications. For this work, classic modelling tools and cutters are more than sufficient. In the case of jewellery making or the production of figures with attached limbs, WIRE or WOODEN TOOTHPICKS can be integrated into your form for stabilization purposes and these can remain in place during the oven curing.

Fimo cures in about 20 to 30 minutes at 110 °C. After curing, Fimo can be cut with a CIRCULAR SAW or reworked using SANDPAPER. The resulting surfaces take on a mottled appearance. After your object has cured, additional pieces can be attached to it and re-baked in the oven. This process can be repeated again and again as long as your finished work pieces have not yet been subjected to further treatment with ACRYLIC PAINT or varnished with CLEAR VARNISH, which should only be done when you are completely satisfied with your results.

Fimo Professional - which was formerly named Fimo Classic - has a different consistency than Fimo Soft, one that is more attuned to the needs of advanced and professional model makers. The Professional modelling clay is firmer than Fimo Soft and is therefore better at making more detailed types of objects and constructions. It should be noted, however, that all the product lines from Fimo can be mixed with one another whereby extraordinary colours as well as super interesting material strengths and stiffnesses can be developed.
