The employer is not obliged to pay for an electrically height-adjustable office desk with motor, even in the case of certified complaints. A claim for cost absorption can only be obtained in exceptional cases. In such a case, a lawyer specializing in labor law can provide you with competent advice. Before it comes so far, however - as in many cases - a conversation and friendly inquiries are worthwhile. Many employers are now willing to invest in health-promoting tables and chairs, especially when refurnishing office space.
Unfortunately, not in principle. In the opinion of the German pension insurance fund, a height-adjustable desk is part of modern ergonomic workplace equipment and is therefore a matter for the employer. At the same time, however, it also emphasizes that it does not see a general entitlement of an employee to such a desk vis-à-vis the employer. The employer could also offer an additional standing desk, for example, or arrange the employee's tasks in such a way that he or she does not have to work permanently in a seated position. Health insurance companies cannot cover or support the purchase of a height-adjustable desk. They lack the legal basis for such expenses. The "height-adjustable desk on prescription" therefore does not exist.
An electric motor is activated when the table is adjusted. The electric motor produces a rather low-frequency and quite quiet whirring noise. Every phone call, every conversation and quite a few office devices like printers or copiers are louder. Moreover, the adjustment only takes a few seconds. For adjusting from the very bottom (70 cm) to the very top (120 cm), a T-table needs just under 15 seconds.
This text was written both standing and sitting at a T-Table Standard Plus. Writing gave the author pleasure. However, he does not attribute his personal happiness to his working tools.
Step 1: Stand correctly
Stand upright and relaxed in front of your height-adjustable desk, which is set to approximately your standing height (see table above). At first, simply let your arms hang down.
Step 2: Align your forearms
If you now lift your forearms at right angles to your upper arms or place them on the desk top, they should rest horizontally on the tabletop of your height-adjustable desk. The angle may be slightly open, i.e. the elbow does not have to rest on it, but the forearms drop slightly to the wrists.
Step 3: Adjust desk height and save if necessary
If necessary, adjust the desk height so that it matches the description in step 2 and you feel comfortable with it. If you have a T table with memory function, save this desk height on one of the three memory buttons.
