X Table

Our award-winning X table (Red Dot Design Award 'Best of the best' 2025) is a minimalist and sophisticated steel construction with a choice of a central or offset cross for social gatherings or for working in the office or home office. Beautiful colors and the combination with one of our table tops make the perfect basis for your studio.

Kai Funke, the brains behind the X table, explains in the video what makes the new table frame so special.

Of course we are convinced of the quality of the X table. But to make sure that we are not alone in our assessment, we submitted it to the Red Dot Award for evaluation. And the feedback we received confirmed our opinion: The X table won the Red Dot Design Award “Best of the Best” in 2025. The quality of the table frame was described by the jury with these words, among others: "X is a rare example of how powerful low-tech can be. It is functional, like an engineering design and yet so strong in character that it becomes iconic. The precise workmanship, high-quality choice of materials and well thought-out construction are inspiring".

The new standard

The new standard

The X table is an independent and emblematic piece of furniture developed by Modulor. During development, the focus was on high utility value in functional and aesthetic terms as well as effective use of materials in the design. Sources of inspiration were archetypal table constructions with a central cross, such as those used by Egon Eiermann for altar and drawing tables. Essentially, the X table consists of just two different components: the two side frames on which the table top is placed and the two connecting V-braces that form the eponymous “X” when assembled. The table can be used in a variety of ways and is very resilient despite its economical design. You can use the frame with any tabletop.

Sophisticated & affordable: the X table is both

The reduced design requires only a small amount of material. This lowers production costs. In addition, the frame is produced in lightweight and easy-to-handle parts. This reduces handling and transportation costs. We can also offer the X table so cheaply because it is produced in-house. In this way, we save ourselves one or two trade stages that lead to higher prices for comparable products. The principle of in-house production not only makes it easier for us to have exactly the product in our range that we like, but we can also offer it at a very attractive price. Good for us and good for you.

Simply flexible: for social gatherings or as a work table

Simply flexible: for social gatherings or as a work table

Our X table is characterized by its flexibility and high utility value in everyday life. For example, you can mount the connecting cross in the middle of the side frames if you want to use the table from both long sides. Alternatively, if you only want to use one long side, you can mount the cross at the edge to create more legroom under the table top. You can change this setting at any time. This means that you don't need a new table if your requirements change, but simply the Allen key. You can also add two or more table frames to create a longer table or a conference table by screwing them together one behind the other. In this case, you could also combine different frame colors.

Quickly disassembled into manageable parts

All detachable connections on the X table can be assembled with the same Allen key. The frame is therefore quick to assemble and disassemble and can be packed in handy parts in just one shipping box. As it only consists of the two main components, the side frame on which the table top rests and the connecting V-braces, error-free assembly is also child's play. And because X can be used in so many different ways and is so easy to assemble, it will serve its owner for a lifetime: as a studio table during training, as a dining table in the home or as a variable office or conference table. So it can accompany you everywhere for a long time.

Robust or delicate? Both.

Robust or delicate? Both.

The X table is made of steel. Steel is an extremely resilient material. When used wisely and sparingly - for example in the dimensioning of profiles and cross-sections - steel can be used to create lightweight constructions despite the high bulk density of the material. The X table is a perfect example of this. The filigree shape of the frame results, among other things, from the use of different tube cross-sections at different points. Despite its lightweight character, the table frame is extremely stable. You can therefore place a wide variety of table tops on the frame, which you can also connect to it if required. The frame is not only very strong, it is also well equipped to withstand everyday mechanical stresses, such as impacts: the surfaces are particularly robust and resistant thanks to a powder coating.

Three important aspects when evaluating the sustainability of products are the use of materials, durability and recyclability. With the X table, steel is used as a high-performance material in very reduced quantities. The construction is durable and the flexibly usable table frame achieves life cycles of several decades without requiring a great deal of maintenance. Should it nevertheless be scrapped at some point, it can be easily recycled in a tried-and-tested recycling process in which the material is 100% recycled with minimal separation effort (steel is magnetic and can be easily fractionated from waste). And without downcycling: scrap is even a sought-after ingredient in the production of new, high-quality steels.
