The thick-layer epoxy casting resin system consists of two components (resin and hardener), which are mixed together in a ratio of 100:45 and can then be processed for up to 4 hours. The casting resin has been specially designed for casting in high layers. It provides a crystal clear, glossy finish and is particularly suitable for applications such as river tables, resin-filled lights and other creative casting projects with wood components. It is formulated to be UV stable so that it retains its clarity for a long time and, with due care, it is easy to apply without bubbles.
Due to its composition, it allows casting up to 5 cm layer thickness per casting, provided that the total volume and temperature conditions are suitable. The environment and the components must not be warmer than 20 °C and not colder than 15 °C. With a layer thickness of 5 cm, the total volume of the casting must not exceed 25 kg, with a layer thickness of 2.5 cm up to 50 kg can be processed in one casting and with a layer thickness of 1.0 cm up to 100 kg. Too thick castings with too large quantities lead to higher temperatures in the material during curing, which results in stress cracks, very large shrinkage and boiling bubbles. This casting resin is not suitable for layer thicknesses of less than 1.0 cm.
General processing instructions
- The wood or the objects to be embedded must be clean and free of dust, oil and grease. The moisture content must be below 13 %. Acidic woods in particular can lead to reaction problems.
- Have all components ready and store resin and hardener at 20 °C in advance. Also observe the room and ambient temperature, which must not be below 15 °C, but also not above 20 °C.
- Avoid frost and moisture during curing and the following 7 days.
- Observe the information on the maximum layer height and always mix only the required quantities.
- Do not use any other additives such as deaerators. These can have a negative effect on the properties of the resin. This can lead to clouding, for example.
