So that oil and acrylic paintings do not lose any of their colour brilliance or luminosity even after a long time, it is advisable to protect them from environmental influences. The satin matt, wax-free make-up universal varnish can take over this protection, but also serves to compensate for gloss differences in oil paintings. After a painting has dried thoroughly (for oil paintings at the earliest after 8-12 months), varnish should be applied with a wide brush. The varnish then dries out physically (by evaporation of the solvent). Schmincke universal varnish can be removed with TERPENTINOIL or TERPENTINERSATZ.
