PMMA UV resin is a one-component, UV-curing acrylic resin (based on polymethyl methacrylate) that can be processed without mixing. It has been specially developed for transparent casting applications where high brilliance, clear visibility and low haze are required. The material is cured by UV radiation (daylight, sunlight or UV lamp). The UV light causes the resin to cross-link, which remains transparent indefinitely when cured and does not yellow even when used outdoors. The resin is particularly suitable for embedding objects such as jewelry, floral elements or other decorative materials.
Please note: The addition of dark pigments or fillers can slow down or even completely prevent curing. The resin is also sensitive to closed molds without UV access. Furthermore, reflections in the mold material can lead to surface defects (interference effects, wave formation). As heat is released at higher layer thicknesses, stress cracks, bubble formation or incomplete curing are possible. The manufacturer recommends a maximum layer thickness of approx. 2 cm per casting section. You can also work in several layers, but the layers will remain faintly visible in the side view.
