Broken bones should always be put in a cast by an expert – in the world of model making, however,a plaster bandage can also be used for making hollow shapes, terrains and masks. When being so used, the bandage should be cut lengthwise, dipped shortly into water and then placed, for example, on a form made from wire mesh, taking care to always overlap the preceding layer. When wetting it, care should be taken not to leave it in the water too long because otherwise all the plaster will be simply rinsed out of the fabric. If you need to add a secong layer, this should be done while the first one is still wet or after wetting it a second time. After it has set (approximately 10 – 15 minutes), it is possible to add another light plaster coat on top of the dried one so as to subsequently sand it smooth.
