The Hylite Alu/PP composite panel is a sandwich construction consisting of two cover layers of aluminum with a core of polypropylene (PP). This combination of plastic and metal results in an unusually light and stable panel material. Both the plastic used, polypropylene (bulk density 0.9 g/cm³, around 35% lighter than PET), and the metal, aluminum (bulk density 2.7 g/cm³, around a third of steel), are already very light representatives of their respective material families. The clever combination of these two materials results in an unusually strong and lightweight sheet. The material is also easy to work with, corrosion-free, dimensionally stable and has a cool and elegant appearance with its matt silver surface.
The Hylite composite panel is ideal for use in advertising technology, display construction, signage, product design, cladding, vehicle construction and even model making. Thanks to its stability and attractive metallic finish, it is also ideal for furniture and interior design applications.
Hylite impresses with its low weight and high bending stiffness. In contrast to solid aluminum panels, the Hylite panel is significantly lighter and yet extremely robust. It is also easy to process: Cutting, drilling and punching are no problem, and thanks to the flexible PP core, the panel can even be used as a hinge if required. To do this, the two aluminum cover layers have to be milled in opposite each other. The RWTÜV tested the hinge application for 80,000 damage-free bends.
