The spoon carving blank is a pre-formed wooden blank for making a hand-carved spoon. It is available in a rough spoon contour, in which both the bowl and handle are already created, but sufficient material remains for individual shaping, wall thickness and surface treatment. The blank is intended for manual processing with carving knives, gouges and abrasives.
You can choose from different types of wood. All variants are untreated and allow you to finish the spoon completely according to your own ideas. Depending on the type of wood, the carving behavior differs significantly, which makes the blank suitable for learning purposes as well as for material-related comparisons in woodworking.
The lime wood version has a uniform, fine fiber structure and can be worked with little effort. It is suitable for initial carving projects and for controlled work on the spoon and handle. Cherry wood is firmer and allows for more precise edges and a denser surface after sanding. Walnut wood is even harder and has a more pronounced grain. It is therefore more suitable for more experienced users. Mulberry is available as a natural hardwood blank and is even harder than walnut.
The carving blank is not pre-marked and contains no markings. You decide the spoon depth, handle cross-section and final shape yourself. Once the carving is complete, the spoon can be oiled, waxed or otherwise treated.
