The spatula carving blank is made from untreated lime wood and serves as a starting form for making a hand-carved spatula that can be used in the kitchen. The blank is completely pre-formed, but without finished edges or surfaces, so that you can continue to work on the spatula according to your own ideas. The blank offers sufficient material thickness to work out the shape of the turner surface, the transition to the handle and any ergonomic adjustments yourself. As no cutting lines or markings are specified, you have complete freedom to design the length, width and profile. You can use hand tools such as carving knives and gouges as well as sandpaper for subsequent finishing.
Lime wood is characterized by a fine, even fibre structure and low hardness. This allows the material to be cut and smoothed in a very controlled manner without splintering. These properties make the blank so suitable for carving projects. After carving, you can oil, wax or otherwise treat the light-colored, natural wood surface to make it food-safe if the spatula is later to be used in the kitchen.
As a learning object, the blank supports the practice of material removal, edge guidance and surface treatment. At the same time, it forms the basis for a functional object that clearly distinguishes itself from industrially manufactured kitchen utensils and makes the handcrafted character visible.
