The addition of Lascaux thickener gives acrylic paints a pasty, slightly buttery consistency. Particularly in the case of paints for glazes that are heavily diluted with water, the increased consistency makes it easier to apply the brush and make the liquid paint easier to apply. Colour depth and surface finish of the painting remain unchanged. An addition of Lascaux thickener prolongs the open time of acrylic paints. Lascaux thickener does not function as a binder and the thickening effect is only effective in the wet state of the paint. Therefore, it is only conditionally suitable for a pronounced structure formation. The use of LASCAUX IMPASTO GEL is recommended for this purpose.
Lascaux Thickener can be added undiluted or as a pre-mix with water, the recommended addition for indoor work is up to 30%, for outdoor work up to 3%. With higher additional quantities the water resistance of the acrylic paints is impaired. When used for glazes, it is recommended to prepare a stock solution: the thickener is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:1 to 1:10 and this mixture is then added to the paint. In this way, the consistency of the ink can be changed in a controlled manner to ensure that it is easy to apply.
