The melamine tabletop is our inexpensive and very proven standard desk top. It has all the properties that make a work table or desk what it should be: robust and durable. A melamine desk top adapts easily to a wide variety of environments.

The melamine tabletop is our robust standard

The melamine tabletop is our robust standard

If you are looking for a durable and solid table top that has become the standard among desk tops, then the melamine table top is the right choice for you. Not only architects and designers trust in the product from industrial production. The reliable materials and the wide range of colours speak for themselves.

Underneath the resistant, scratch-proof melamine resin coating lies an equally stable base: a certified and therefore pollutant-free chipboard. The board core and the melamine resin surface are hardly susceptible to everyday wear and tear. Whether for long days of office work in front of large and small screens, for kitchen or break tables, or as an enduring companion in children's and teenagers' years: The melamine tabletop can withstand a lot.

The special feature of the melamine tabletop compared to our linoleum and HPL tabletops: If the melamine table top is not screwed down and only rests on the table frame, it can be turned around and used from both sides. The top and bottom of the melamine tabletop are identical and have exactly the same colour and surface texture. It is therefore not surprising that the use of this all-rounder has proven itself over many years in offices, studios, architecture studios, but also in kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms. In this context, however, please note that we only guarantee you at least one flawless A-side. Slight impairments in the surface quality of the B-side cannot be ruled out and are not grounds for complaint.

What is an edge veneer?

What is an edge veneer?

An edge veneer is a thin side coating, which is glued to the narrow side of the table top. It covers the open particle board, which forms the basis of the melamine tabletop. For reasons of robustness and as a sign of high quality, our edgings have a thickness of 2 millimeters. When covering other pieces of furniture, such as cupboard doors or shelf walls, these are usually much thinner.

The top colour of a melamine table top can be combined with an edge banding made of untreated real wood or a variant made of ABS plastic. If you are looking for a monochrome table top whose surface and edges have the same colour, we recommend choosing an ABS edge banding in the same colour as the top surface.

If, on the other hand, you want to edge a white melamine table top with a beautiful wooden edge, for example, you can choose from well-known and less well-known types of wood. In contrast to our linoleum table tops, the thickness of the edging is also visible when looking at or under the top. It is therefore not only a covering for the side edges, but also visually frames the top and bottom of the tabletop.

Thin (19 mm) or thick (25 mm) top

Thin (19 mm) or thick (25 mm) top

The difference of almost one centimeter between the two top thicknesses (19 mm and 25 mm) is noticeable. The thinner version is primarily suitable for smaller tables such as side tables, living room tables, or plant stools. If the narrow melamine table top is used as a desktop or work surface, we recommend a table frame with supporting substructures. The frames of our MT, and Y series are ideal for this. They ensure that the melamine table top does not sag or warp.

In contrast, the 25 mm thick melamine table tops are also suitable for larger desks and conference tables. For reasons of stability, however, it is also recommended to use a table frame with supporting substructures from a freestanding length of approximately 160 cm.

Practical cable passage

Practical cable passage

Goodbye, tangled cables! Granted: A cable passage in a melamine tabletop certainly doesn't solve the problem of the amount of cables. But it does bundle together all the equipment, charging and lamp cables and ensures a tidy overall picture.

The cable outlet is available in matt black, matt silver and stainless steel versions - each with flexible black plastic bristles so that nothing slips through. All lids have a locking device so that the cable passage is fixed by a quarter turn. So nothing slips - even if the cables move.

The core of the melamine table top consists of a certified, pollutant-free particle board, which forms the basic framework of the melamine table top. It is pressed on both sides with layers of paper soaked in melamine resin. This process makes the board resistant to all kinds of external influences, as they occur in daily use. Sweaty hands, spilled drinks, as well as heavier, technical equipment, can't harm the dense melamine resin coating so quickly.

But what would a table top be without a matching edge? After the melamine coating has dried and cured in the desired color, real wood or ABS plastic edge veneer is applied. After several years of experience in the use of melamine table tops, polyurethane (PU) glue has proven to be the most suitable adhesive for board and edge veneer. It ensures a permanent connection that does not dissolve, even when heated or exposed to sunlight. The edging is, therefore, free to protect the table and at the same time, its visual appearance.

As with other furniture surfaces, the surface of the melamine table top can also be cleaned best with a damp cloth and, if necessary, gentle cleaning agents. Although the melamine resin surface is very durable and resistant to scratching, certain cleaning utensils should not come into contact with it. Scratchy sponges, pot cleaners, and comparable all-rounders certainly remove dirt faster and more effectively than a soft cloth. However, they also leave evident traces and attack the surface of the melamine table top.

The same applies to the cleaning of an edge veneer made of ABS plastic. If dirt has settled on a real wood edging, it can be removed with a damp cloth. Wood fibers of untreated real wood are formed after contact with water. We recommend very fine sandpaper and the careful regrinding of the dried edge veneer to obtain a smooth edge again. To permanently seal a real wood edging, we recommend the work surface oil from Biofarben. It contains natural oils and waxes, is transparent, and makes the table edge water-repellent and insensitive to stains.
