Acrylic paints are easy to handle and can be applied directly to paper, painting boards and canvas. However, painting grounds are often not evenly absorbent over the entire surface, which can lead to problems after drying (uneven application of paint, wave formation, etc.). Therefore it is recommended to pre-treat and seal substrates approx. 2-4 times with Gesso (lat. Gypsum = plaster). Schmincke Gesso is ready to use, but can be diluted with water (10-20%). It dries white covering, but can be coloured with Schmincke acrylic paints or painted over with acrylic or oil paints after drying.
