The colourless Cobra painting paste has the same consistency as the Cobra water-mixable oil paint and is basically a paint without pigments. It can be mixed at any ratio with the oil paint and increases the transparency of the paint proportionally to the amount added without changing its consistency. In this way transparent coloured layers of paint can be applied by using the trowelling technique. A lessening of the colour intensity may be desirable if you mix paints with very different coverage levels in one picture. Through the addition of painting paste you are able to reduce the dominance of the more colour intense paints.
In order to save money, the Cobra oil paint can be extended with the painting paste without there being any change in the colour tone. The stronger the inherent coverage level of a colour tone, the more you will be able to add painting paste before any increase in transparency becomes noticeable.
