bast from the raffia palm, solid coloured, comes on cardboard tube
Raffia twine or ribbon is produced from bast fibres that come from the raffia palm tree and which are as long as 25 metres. This tree grows mainly in Madagascar but is also found in the eastern, western and southern regions of Africa. The fibres from the tree contain a natural wax and, as a result, display great suppleness, stretchability and sturdiness. For this reason, raffia is used to make things like mats, baskets and hats.
