The Mt Artist Washi Tapes by Minä Perhonen were designed by the Japanese design label minä perhonen. The brand was founded in 1995 by Akira Minagawa and is known for textile designs whose motifs are inspired by, among other things, observations of nature and everyday impressions. In addition to the motif, each of the two variants offered here features a distinctive surface or material effect: “luminescent light collage” glows in the dark after being exposed to light (afterglow effect), while “flocky metsä” has a noticeably soft surface thanks to its flocked finish.
The “luminescent light collage” version is 15 mm wide and 2 m long. The washi tape absorbs light (sunlight or artificial light) and then releases the stored energy as a glow in the dark. The glow effect requires prior exposure to light.
“flocky metsä” is 30 mm wide and comes on a 3-meter roll. “Metsä” means “forest” in Finnish. The design was created in homage to Finnish forest landscapes. The surface is textured or raised through a flocking process, giving it a soft, textile-like feel. As a result, the tape makes an impression not only through its color and illustration but also through its unique tactile quality.
