The "Kanoko" (German = Rehkitz; English = fawn) or speckle pattern has existed since the Nara Period (710-794) and is supposed to bring the fur texture of an animal to mind. Because it was customarily produced using the complicted and expensive Shiboritechnik (basically tie-dying technique) it has come to stand for luxury and wealth.
Kanoko Shibori is printed on both sides and displays a somewhat uneven light-coloured rhomic pattern (one side white, other side cream) on a monochrome background. Because of its lightweight, translucent texture and the classic colour hues this material lends itself to use in a multitude of sewing projects in the fields of clothing and decoration.
