The Anglepoise 315 Navigation Edition is a task lamp designed for activities where you want to direct light specifically onto a limited work area. Its origins date back to the 1940s: The original “Project 315” was conceived as a specialized version of the Anglepoise lamp developed by George Carwardine to illuminate navigators’ chart tables in long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft. For the current version, Anglepoise has revised this design for use on today’s writing, drafting, and work desks.
A key difference from many other Anglepoise lamps is the small aluminum shade—just 7 cm wide—paired with a GU10 LED spot. The included 7-W bulb produces 600 lumens with a beam angle of 38°. This concentrates the light more intensely on a defined area rather than illuminating the entire desk over a wide area. This helps you, for example, when drawing, reading small details, or building models. The bulb is positioned relatively high up in the 12-cm-tall shade to prevent direct glare. With a color temperature of 2700 K, it emits warm white light; the color rendering index (CRI) is 90.
Using the adjustable Anglepoise arm, you can adapt the position of the lamp head to suit your current task. The maximum reach from the base to the shade is 66 cm. At the same time, the square base, measuring 15 × 15 cm, takes up relatively little floor space. The base is made of cast iron with a steel cover, providing the necessary counterweight when adjusting the lamp. The shade and black components echo the minimalist design of the historic model: the aluminum shade is polished and lacquered, and the fittings are black nickel-plated.
The base is also designed with desk work in mind. A clip on the back holds notes, sketches, or reminders, while a pen holder keeps writing or drawing tools within easy reach. The package also includes a notebook and a pencil. The 250 cm long, black-sheathed fabric cord gives you additional flexibility when placing the lamp on your desk. The lamp’s switch is located directly on the power cord.
