Acrylic moulding paste is great for creating structured painting surfaces and for applying paint in a relief-like manner with a brush or palette knife. After drying, the surface is hard but still flexible and can still be sanded as a reworking method. Acrylic moulding paste can be applied pure to serve as a substrate and painted over with acrylic or oil paints - or even directly mixed into acrylic paint. Mixing will lighten the colour of the paint being used. Any of the customary painting bases can serve as the painting substrate for this technique. Moulding pastes 1 and 2 will dry to a surface that has a fine to course chalk texture; Mould paste 3 contains small pieces of chalk that are up to 0.5 mm in size and will be accordingly rough when dry.
