Tracing paper makes it possible to draw through a template directly behind it. It thus opens up great possibilities in the field of technical drawing and manual construction at the drawing table. The dense paper is excellent for precise drawings. Drawings made with a pencil can be easily corrected with an eraser. Even drawings made with ink can be corrected with a razor blade on tracing paper. To do this, you scratch away the faulty areas on the paper with the razor blade perpendicular to the plane of the paper. Then sand the paper surface smooth again with a glass eraser so that newly applied ink does not run there. The stronger the paper, the more often you can correct the same spots.

Tracing paper was the most important paper for planners and engineers until the triumph of CAD programs. Today, it is deliberately chosen for its aesthetic appearance as drawing paper (for the plotter) or still serves as a drawing background for hand drawings. It is also suitable for dividers, as well as for book covers and craft materials.

From an ecological point of view, however, it is rather poor: tracing paper is made exclusively from virgin fibers (no recycled content), is not recyclable itself, and thus does not belong in paper waste.
