The Staedtler Noris 120 pencil is certainly familiar to most people thanks to its memorable design (hexagonal, black-and-yellow lacquered barrel). Unknown to most, however, is that it is one of the most sustainable of all pencils. The barrel is made of wood shavings from the woodworking industry. The Staedtler company has developed an upcycling process in which the wood residues are turned into pencils and colored pencils. In addition, the wood scraps not only come from German factories (for the sake of short distances), but they are also made exclusively from PEFC-certified woods.
The upcycling process produces a material ("Upcycled Wood") with a higher raw density than wood. This ensures greater resistance to breakage and also makes the pencil more sustainable, because what lasts longer is also usable for longer. You can choose from five degrees of hardness from 2H to 2B.
