The Mars Lumograph charcoal is a wood-cased charcoal pencil from Staedtler with a specially developed lead formula that contains a high proportion of carbon black and charcoal. This composition results in a deep black smear that is particularly suitable for expressive drawings, portraits, hatching and large-scale sketches.
Thanks to its robust lead with a diameter of around 4.5 mm, the pencil glides smoothly over the paper and creates flowing transitions and intense tonal values. The wooden shaft has a classic hexagonal profile - so it does not roll away, sits securely in the hand and enables controlled drawing
