The colored solar photo paper is a light-sensitive special paper for sun prints. With the help of sunlight, high-contrast image motifs are created on it without the need for a camera, printing technology or chemical developers. The process is based on a light-reactive coating material that changes color under UV radiation. This allows graphic silhouettes and patterns to be created through exposure alone.
For the application, an object is placed directly on the coated surface of the paper. Leaves, flowers, grasses, small tools, puzzle pieces or other flat objects are suitable, for example. The paper is then exposed to sunlight for a few minutes. During the exposure, the light-sensitive layer reacts with the UV radiation. Areas covered by the object remain unchanged, while the exposed areas change color. After exposure, the paper is placed in a water bath, which makes the image visible and fixes the print.
In this way, graphic negatives of the applied forms are created. The result is clear contours and structured surfaces that reproduce the shape of the object used. As the paper is available in several colors, colored sun prints can also be created. Different motifs and overlays create individual compositions.
The format of the individual sheets is suitable for smaller print projects and experiments with light and shadow. The resulting prints can be used for cards, collages, book covers or decorative paper works, for example. In addition to the design aspect, the material also makes a basic photographic principle visible: the effect of light on light-sensitive materials.
