The Faber-Castell Pitt charcoal set includes a coordinated selection of charcoal in different shapes and degrees of hardness. The set includes both classic charcoal and charcoal in pencil and block form, which can be used to create a variety of drawing techniques. While charcoal tends to be soft and easy to smudge, the denser composition of charcoal allows for much darker and high-contrast lines. By combining several degrees of hardness (extra soft to hard), you can create fine lines, flat shading and bold accents. This is particularly useful for studies, sketches and elaborate drawings where you want to precisely work out light-shadow gradients and contrasts.
The set is complemented by a paper wiper (Estompe), which can be used to smudge transitions in a controlled manner, as well as a kneaded eraser, which is suitable for brightening up areas or highlighting details. All components are housed in a sturdy metal case, which allows you to store them neatly and transport them safely.
