Many people prefer colour pastel chalks that are wood encased. They are different from, or maybe just more conventional to use than, “naked” and much shorter pastel chalks that, in addition, are more likely to fracture (obviously). When being applied, these Gioconda pastels act much like the TOISON D´OR 8580 pastels that are not wood encased but, it should be noted, they are somewhat scratchier, chalkier and produce a stronger colour.
The 48 colours have consistent fade-resistance properties – most of the colours have even received a grade of “excellent” from the artist community.
