The Pitt Oil Base artist's pencil from Faber-Castell is an oil-based drawing pencil for intensive, deep black applications on various surfaces. The lead is based on an oil-based formula that differs significantly from classic graphite or wax pencils. It enables very rich, opaque color application with a soft stroke and high color density. The soft to very soft lead allows dark areas to be applied evenly and transitions to be worked out precisely. The "soft" version offers a controllable balance between application and dimensional stability, while "extra soft" produces an even softer, more strongly releasing stroke. Depending on your requirements, you can either work more precisely or deliberately achieve a more intensive, fuller application.
A key advantage of the oil-based system is its good adhesion to various surfaces. In addition to paper, you can also use the pen on less absorbent materials, such as cardboard, wood or certain plastics. The application remains smudge-proof and does not come off as easily as with dry media. At the same time, the soft lead allows you to work directly without high pressure, which is particularly relevant for longer drawing sessions. The wood-cased shape ensures familiar handling and can be used with standard sharpeners. The lead remains stable enough to be guided in a controlled manner despite its softness. Depending on the pressure and layering, you can achieve different effects from a light gray haze to opaque black.
