The Carta Pura Washi pad contains 48 sheets of Genshi in the 16 × 24 cm size. This 70 g/m² washi is also the base paper for Chiyogami papers and is made from recycled kozo, manila hemp, and cellulose fibers. Its two distinct surfaces expand your creative possibilities: The top side is smooth, while the bottom side has a noticeably rougher texture. This allows you to choose between a smooth and a more textured side of the paper, depending on the tool you’re using and the desired result.
Both sides can be written on and painted with fountain pens, rollerball pens, ink pens, ink brushes, as well as felt-tip pens and colored pencils. Ink and ink wash remain clear on the paper’s surface and do not bleed through to the back. Genshi is also suitable for working with pencil, pastel, chalk, and charcoal. The different surface textures allow for both precise lines and works in which the paper’s grain is visibly incorporated into the design.
In addition to drawing and writing, the paper is suitable for various printing techniques. You can use it for woodcut, linocut, screen printing, and letterpress, as well as for laser and digital printing. This lightweight yet durable paper can also be used for origami and making lampshades. The cover sheet is made of 140 g/m² Carta Pura paper with cotton fibers, the same type used in the Carta Pura sketchpad . The Japanese character “Shi,” meaning “paper,” is screen-printed onto it.
