The piston flute is a small wooden wind instrument for playful sound experiences and first musical experiments. It is also called a slide flute or lotus flute and differs from a classic recorder in that it has a movable piston: while the top is blown in, the stick at the bottom can be pulled out and pushed in. This changes the resonance chamber of the flute - and with it the pitch. This simple, immediately audible principle makes the piston flute particularly easy to understand for children, music groups and sound games.
The piston flute is also appealing for experimental sound moments: slow pulling creates gliding pitches, fast moving creates lively sound effects. This makes it interesting not only for first attempts at melody, but also for noises, wind sounds, animal sounds or imaginative sound accompaniment.
