Queen of Arts is both a card game and a reference book that focuses on the life, work and impact of 54 female artists - from the early modern period to the present day. The set combines a classic deck of cards with a comprehensive 116-page booklet containing further biographical information and examples of each artist's work.
The idea behind the structure: the traditional four suits of a deck of cards (hearts, spades, diamonds, clubs) are historically linked to four social classes (clergy, nobility, merchants, rural population). In Queen of Arts, these four colors are reinterpreted into categories such as seers, fighters, influencers and dissidents - and the artists are assigned to these types accordingly.
The illustrations are by Laura Callaghan, who works with watercolor, gouache and fine line elements. The design aims to arouse curiosity about the biographies through its visual appeal, so that users not only play cards, but also use the booklet as a source of information and inspiration. The set is written in English.
The card deck can also be used as a regular game - for example as a classic card game or as an educational game - and the booklet can be consulted at the same time to discover background information. The visual design of the product invites you to browse through the biographies and think holistically about historical, structural and aesthetic aspects of art.
