The word of the toy Kendama is made up of the hiragana for sword(ken) and the character for ball(tama). Kendama is a classic wooden game of skill that requires few elements and yet demands an amazing amount of practice, concentration and feeling. It consists of a wooden handle with catching recesses and a pin as well as a red wooden ball that is connected to the handle by a string. The aim is to whirl the ball up in a controlled manner and either catch it in one of the recesses or place it on the pin. What looks simple quickly becomes a small challenge - and this is precisely the appeal of this traditional game principle.
With a height of 17 cm, the Kendama is handy, compact and well suited for short breaks, concentration exercises or as a small movement game in between. The game primarily trains hand-eye coordination, motor skills, endurance and patience.
