Information about PET-G sheets

Due to its low CO2 permeability and its clear transparency, polyester or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is used in most cases for plastic bottles. PET is one of the technically most important representatives of polyester plastics. PET-G is a polyethylene terephthalate modified with glycol, which does not crystallize and becomes brittle even at high temperatures due to its viscous properties.

Application
Due to the tendency to yellowing, outdoor use of PET on is only recommended to a limited extent. Due to their high strength, impact strength, stiffness and heat resistance, semi-crystalline polyesters are suitable as construction materials.

Properties:
PET-G does not break even after bending several times. The very low abrasion with favourable sliding and insulation properties make them interesting for precision components. Semi-crystalline PET can be permanently used from -30 °C to +110 °C.

Processing:
Machining of polyesters is possible with the usual processing methods. Thin PET films can be cut with the cutter. However, scratch breaking is not so easy due to the high toughness, but polyester foils and sheets can be excellently deep-drawn from a temperature of about 150 °C. The material can be used for the production of polyester foils and sheets. Carbide tipped saw blades are particularly suitable for sawing.
PET can be polished to a high gloss, dyed and printed. Joints are created either by the usual plastic welding processes or with adhesives based on epoxy resin, cyanoacrylate or polyurethane.
The special characteristic of PET is its "cold bending capability". It can be bent at any angle without breaking or discolouring at the bending edge (white fracture). Due to its impact resistance, PET can also be nailed or riveted.

Our offer:
PET-G or polyester sheets are available in transparent thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 2.0 mm up to a sheet size of 1250 x 2050 mm. In addition, we offer grid plates and corrugated sheets, both ideal for model making.
