The white to reddish white wood of the maple is glossy with fine pores. With a density of 0,61 kg/dm³ it is a medium heavy wood. Maple is very stable, tough and moderately hard. The wood shrinks very little but does have a tendency to crack. It takes well to processing, turning and bending but it is difficult to stain or colour. When used outdoors it becomes clear that it is not weather resistant and is susceptible to fungi and insects. It is primarily used for making furniture and interior furnishings.
