FoamWerks cutting tools were developed to provide a way for precisely reworking sandwich panels with paper cover layers like KAPA BOARDS or FOAM BOARDS. The various tools make it possible to make exact 90° or 45° cuts, to cut circles up to 150 mm in diameter or to punch out holes from 4.5 to 19 mm in diameter. In the realm of architectural model making, the RABBET CUTTER is particularly useful because you can cut a sandwich panel in such a way that the paper cover layer remains uncut on one side. In addition, the V-GROOVE CUTTER is great for this work as well because it can cut a series of “V” shaped grooves in order to shape the board into a curve. The FoamWerks hole drill enables you to effortlessly make holes with very clean edges in sandwich panels, styropor and polystyrene rigid foam boards up to 12.7 mm thick. The drill tips that are included have three different diameters (they correspond to American inch measurements, which explains the unusual millimetre dimensions given). They are fitted into place by means of screw threads in the housing. To use the tool, you hold the housing in place and turn the upper knob in a clockwise direction until you have drilled completely through the material. Notice that the holes are not made with the same action as a punch but rather by a continuously even rotation in one direction. It is for this reason that the final edges are so cleanly cut. You should always use a scrap piece of foam board underneath the piece you are cutting. The cutting mats made out of PVC that we usually strongly recommend as cutting underlays are too hard and too dense for use with the sensitive blades in FoamWerks tools.
