UV protection film filters out the invisible UVA and UVB rays that cannot be seen by the naked eye. X-film O-FTG 50 is especially good for use with ink-jet printing because it tends to enhance the brilliance of the colours as well as protect them. It should, however, be noted that damage can also be caused by the visible spectrum of light and colourless protection films does not protect against that eventuality. UV protection film, then, only slows down the process of fading by a considerable amount as compared to the speed of the damage when an object is left unprotected. Because the fading of a colour will depend on the quality of dye and the carrier material in question, an accurate estimate of the actual amount of protection provided is impossible. In addition, the O-FTG 50 protects against graffiti on smooth surfaces like glass, plastic or metal. If spray paint is applied to it, the film can simply be removed and replaced. Because of the fact that when applied to glass it reduces its transparency considerably, we strongly suggest that it not be used on display windows. The OFTG 50 film is only conditionally suitable for use in protecting photography (make a preliminary test); it is also not solvent resistant. This film can withstand about 3 years of middle European weather. UV protective film can be cut with an artist knife or a scissors. The manufacturer does not recommend using a cutting plotter on it or trying to screen print it. In the case of large surfaces, the film should be applied wet if the surface can handle moisture.
