Acrylic glass GS sheets and blocks are produced by means of liquid PAMMA polymerizing between two sheets of glass. This process produces a material with outstanding characteristics: it is fracture resistant (compared to glass), weather resistant, highly transparent and lends itself to being shaped and processed.

Acrylic glass GS can be milled, drilled and sawn and, as a thermoplastic plastic, can be shaped (deformed) at temperatures between 160 and 180 degrees. When processing it with a CNC milling machine please take into account the thickness tolerances (the variability) of the acrylic glass. The values for the possible tolerances can be calculated with the help of the following formula: Tolerance = ± (0.4 + 0.1 x thickness) mm. For intricate milling work like that which often is required in model making, we recommend you use cast PRECISION ACRYLIC GLASS.

Satined acrylic is a material made for lighting. Its exquisite finely roughed surface cannot be seen through but still transmits more light than a white-translucent ACRYLIC GLASS SHEET. It also reflects a lot less light, which means that when used in lamp construction the greater part of the lamp’s light finds its way into the surroundings.

The firm Degussa (Röhm) has introduced into the market a collection of cast acrylic glasses under the name “Plexiglas Satinice” which especially stand out because of their semi-gloss satined surfaces. The material is offered in two different surface combinations: glossy/satined (SC) and double-sided satined (DC). The matte-finished surface doesn’t easily scratch and fingerprints do not show up on it.

The matte-finished surface makes Plexiglas Satinice an excellent choice for a multitude of creative uses. It is often used at trade shows or in model making (e.g. closet doors), for room dividers or displays, in illuminated advertising or in the production of lighting fixtures. When making a lamp one must keep in mind that it is not only the separation distance from the light source but even more the ventilation of the lamp that is important in regards to overheating. To achieve this, you must make sure that the hot air has an upward escape route.

The matte-finished surface of Plexiglas Satinice SC and DC remain intact during heated deformation. On top of that, it can be sawn, bored, milled, laser-cut and glued just like normal acrylic GS.
