This mechanical pencil has the same robust and finely designed raiment as the classic Caran d´Ache 849 ballpoint pen. (Actually, though, the Swiss manufacturer of this and other high quality writing implements prefers to use the term “lead holder” (in translation) so as to set such quality apart!) The hexagonal barrel is made of quality metal but is nonetheless very lightweight so that long periods of writing and drawing are a lot easier to handle. The surface is painted with numerous coats of paint making it very durable. The lead feed mechanism is activated by means of the pushbutton on the top end of the barrel. The eraser and the spare lead reservoir are also found at this spot – you simply remove the pushbutton cap to access them. The 844 mechanical pencil uses lead that has HB grade hardness. Replacement leads with a variety of hardness grades for technical drawing, writing and sketching can be found in our product assortment.
