Sun-protection/one-way mirror adhesive film 20R

The sun-protective film 20R is our response to the demand for a “one-way viewing mirror film” - what is often referred to as spy film. The film prevents viewing from lightness into darkness but enables viewing from darkness into lightness. It is vacuum metallized with silver on one side while the other side is coated with a water-activated glue which is itself covered with an ultra-thin protective film. As a result of the vacuum metallization, the film has a grey “inking” effect which produces a muted greyish blue light indoors.

When used for sun protection, the film reflects about 80% of the radiation and thereby prevents a room with many windows from heating up. At the same time it reduces the UV transmission to about 1% and increases the heat insulation of glass in winter.

On the other hand - a fact that is seldom mentioned by other vendors - the sun-protection film does not just reflect the sun in summer when you want it to but also reflects the suns rays away in winter - a time of year when those rays could contribute considerably to the desired warming of a room (the winter garden effect).

In office buildings the considerably reduced amount of light on sunny days is a plus for the people working on monitors but on overcast days artificial light becomes necessary.

Applications: Because the protective film and the glue, even in its unused condition, are completely invisible, it can be spanned across a frame for use in, for example, scenery and theatre constructions.

Treatment: The sun-protection film 20R is an interior reflection film, which is to say that it must be mounted on the inside of the window glass. Thereby it should be noted that in the case of functional glazing (glass which is primarily used in new buildings) it is not possible to use the interior reflection film. Functional glazing is so made that it already has its own heat protection built in. Mounting an additional sun-protection film on the interior side of the glass sheet would lead to the glass cracking because of heat stress. For such functional glazing, an exterior film must be used - a type which we also just happen to have on offer as full rolls (on inquiry). In the case of the so-called toughened safety glass or the simple insulation glass windows that were used in buildings up to about 1995 the sun-protection interior film can be mounted without any problem. The danger that those glasses might crack does not exist because of the technical specifications of their production.
